Founded in 1986 the Society is dedicated to study all aspects of Pullman operations in the British Isles and Continental Europe - and in the United States, where the first cars were built and services began.

The Society aims to:

  • gather information about, and record details of,  the use of the Pullman name and ideals wherever they are found;
  • disseminate this information to the membership through the Society's journal The Golden Way and other publications;
  • attend exhibitions and display items of Pullman interest to members of the public;
  • hold occasional exhibitions at which the Society's collection of Pullman artifacts can be displayed to the public.

The Society publishes a quarterly newsletter entitled PULLMAN CIRCULAR containing Society news and announcements, preservation and modelling notes and other items of topical interest, also a three issues per year journal entitled The Golden Way containing factual articles of Pullman history.

The Society held two exhibitions, at Hendon in September-November 1997, and at Derby Industrial Museum in December 1999-January 2000. It is proposed to hold a further exhibition when a suitable venue is found. The Society was instrumental in the erection of a plaque at Bradford Forster Square station to commemorate the departure in 1874 of the first Pullman service in Great Britain from the original Midland Railway station, which stood on that site.

Many cars survive in preservation, most notably on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express mainline operation, but also on the various preserved railways up and down the country such as the Bluebell Railway, Kent & East Sussex Railway and North Yorkshire Moors Railway, who operate Pullman dining trains. It is these locations which provide the venue for the Society's annual General Meeting to which members are invited to bring along items for display. The day is completed with the traditional dinner within an appropriate Pullman surrounding. The 2009 AGM will take place at Tenterden on 9th May - time and venue to be announced. All Society and prospective members are cordially invited to attend and will be warmly welcomed.
